Hello.
Able to Japanize messages systematically, but characters are garbled.
So if customable System Font in each language's message file, will resolve
this problem, like this:

Language = Japanese
Font = MS UI Gothic

Another idea, enable Unicode will do, I think.
Could you please advise me.   Thank you.

P.S.  Easy English (short sentences) please.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear of the problem.

Can you send me a PDF with problem to my e-mail (exp (at) exp-systems.com)?

PDF reDirect should work with Japanese text, so I would like to see problem so that I can fix.

    Thanks!

Michel.

Thanks.
PDF encoding with Japanese text itself will do.

The main problem is "[Preferences] > [General] > [Language]".
Selecting "Japanese" (trying with prototype of Japanese message file),
some of screen message shows garbled and can't read as Japanese.

Also, double-byte character's filename isn't accepted.  Can't save PDF
(this can be resolved with renaming a file so far), and can't do preview
(will hangup after trying).  Is this software Unicode-oriented, or enabled
in future?

I'm sending a screenshot with detail.
Hope will do for fix.

Appreciated.

Thank you for the screenshot. That was very useful.

Could you check that you have Windows setup to display the Japanese characters for non-unicode programs? I have an example shown on my forum [ http://here - here ] which will show you where that setting is located:

This is a temporary fix until I add full unicode support in PDF reDirect in the next version. Also, the current version does not support unicode characters in the path or in the filename, as you discovered. The next version will fix this problem. It will be available early next year, probably March or April.

    Cheers!

Hello Michel,

Is there any update will be scheduled regading unicode filename/pathname?
I found this is a great tool for us all, but in Japanese OS environment, gotta messages mentionded by Hiroki.

If there's anything to help your development, just ask me. I have Japanese Windows XP SP3 with MS Office 2003.

Hello Yasuhiro,

Yes, actually. The latest beta should work for you. Please try it, and see if it works better.

Just be aware that there is still four bugs that might affect you:

1. The thumbnail preview might not work
2. The metadata (Author, keywords, etc.) definitely does not work with unicode (Japanese characters),
3. There is a bug whereby "locked" PDF files also appear as "encrypted" in PDF reDirect (even though the settings are correct), and
4. I do not have the Japanese translation implemented for the user interface (I need the help from someone to do the translation for me).

The fixes for the three bugs are coming really soon, but for the basic feature of using Japanese characters in the path/filename, it should be fine now. You can download the latest beta version [ http://www.exp-systems.com/Forum_exp/forum_posts.asp?TID=464 - here ] (scroll to the bottom)

   I hope that helps.

Hi Michel,

It works fine!

Those files which has Japanese name could be converted properly with Japanse pathname.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

And, I think I can translate the "resource file" for Japanese UI.
I've been working for IT companies more than 15 years :-)
I have experiences of software localization and internationalization, too.

How many target words and groups of words are there in the resouce file ?
I just estimated, less than one hundred.

Hello Yasuhiro,

OK, cool: thanks for the help.

There are about 340 items to translate, and in my experience, it takes about 4 to 5 hours to do the entire file.

I will e-mail you the Excel file to use to create the translation this weekend.

Michel,

OK, I will check the sheet you'll make.

As you may know, English to Japanese translation is kinda weird job :-)
If you required completely "context-sensitive" translatation, it may takes longer time.

Anyway, I will see the list and let you know what I can do for you.

Michel,

I recieved your e-mail with a attachment and the Excel file works fine.

Before my translation , I just changed the language setting from English to Japanese.
Then, I found some translated words are not shown properly. I guess the label-width  is not enough to display the Japanese strings.
For example, Main label4 "help" is translated into 3 Japanese charactors in Japanese.txt. But there's only one charactor is shown in PDF reDirect top window.

There are several fields too narrow just mentioned above.

Do you want me:
1. to use short sentence to fit into those fields?
Or
2. just translate as they should be?

In the 2nd case, I will leave memo which fields are too short.

Hope you will understand my English...

Michel,

My report above is incorrect.

The reason some charactor is not shown is NOT the fields are too narrow.
Depends on charactor code, maybe.

I will follow up later.

Michel-san: Long time no see.
While then, it works much better on Japanese pathname, and...

Welcome SUZUKI-san!  Very appreciated to your work.
I downloaded 2.9beta and found my translation file is still on (^_^).
(oh, some additional items)
Also I can see that message are not shown properly--too narrow as Suzuki-san said.  Looking forward to fix it.

Hello Yasuhiro,

I have uploaded v2.2.918 with your updated translation. Hiroki noted that some labels are too short. Are they the ones for the batch printers? Or are there any others I could not find.

Also, please take a look at the translation file, lines 497, 498 and 499 where I added the text for the buttons that had the missing translations.

   Thanks!

Michel

Hiroki-san,

Thank you for your words.
If you have any suggestions for those traslation, just let me know please.

Michel,

OK, I will check and see the latest program including added items.
As you mentioned, Hiroki-san pointed the same thing regarding labels, maybe.

My translation for the labels are not "natural" enough to justify the narrow and inappropriate font definition.
I think I can send you 2 files:
1st one, to fit "as is" labels.
2nd one, if label issue can be fixed, this translation is better than the other.
You can check your trial-version with 2nd one.

Regards,
Yasuhiro SUZUKI

Suzuki-san:
Thank you.  Now I'm adjusting messages, checking each window or dialogs.  So far, on narrow ones, I leave them as they are.  Some modification done: spell check, typo, meaning check, shorten sentences, etc.  Please let me know any conflicts you find.  My "Japanese.txt" is ready for you.

Michel-san:
Another bug: [Preference]>[Batch Printer]>Trailer Number, Starting Number are weird.  Try click on "Trailer Number" (not on digits).

Thank you.

Sincerly,
Hiroki

Hiroki-san,

Thanks again for your double check.
I just update the Japanese.txt including recently added items. How do I get your .txt? Is it possible to place it on any uploader?

Suzuki-san:
OK.  I'll send via Michel-san, as I don't use specific uploader.
so that we'll be able to access directly in Japanese on Japan Time.
Translation is getting better now.
Thank you.
