    Posted: 06 Feb 11 at 3:18PM

I would be most appreciative if you could help me install PDF reDirect.  I've spent countless hours trying to install the latest versions of PDF reDirect (Install_PDFR_Pro_v252.exe and Install_PDFR_v252.exe).

Following the forum’s recommendations to check permissions on the Monitor key in the registry eliminated the 1801 error; however, now I'm receiving the following error message:

"Error Occured as follows:

- Error# = 52

- DLLErr = 0"

I've followed all recommendations pertaining to cleaning the registry of suspect entries including the file system.  In addition, I've attempted installation in SAFE MODE and repeatedly stopped/started the print spooler.

When the PDF reDirect uninstall runs after a failed install, I see a window for a brief moment, but I cannot determine exactly what directory is involved.  I think it is “E:\Windows\spool\drivers”.  A brief listing of my system follows:

XP SP3

Lastest updates

Pentium D 940 (Stepping C1; CPUID Revision 0000F64h

4GB RAM

RAID 0 15k Cheetah drives (System/Boot partitions)

Hi,

I've never seen this error before. It looks like the installation is 100% successful - until the very end.

Leave it with me: I'll work on it to day to see if I can find what might be causing this error in the last few lines of code.

There is something obviously odd. I see three printers being installed. PDF reDirect Pro v2, PDF reDirect Pro v2 (copy1), andPDF reDirect Pro v2 (copy2). That is worth investigating as well. Do you have any idea where these come from?

Do you have access to a shared PDF reDirect Pro printer from a server or a fellow worker in your list of printers?

Check your Application Data >> PDF reDirect folder. If that folder exists, then delete it before trying to install again.

   Cheers!

Michel_K17,

Thanks for your prompt response to my request for help installing PDF reDirect.  Out of frustration, I reverted to an earlier image of my system and PDF Pro reDirect installed without a hitch.  The only error message I received while using the software is noted below, but it didn't seem to affect the function of PDF reDirect:

"PDF reDirect Pro v2 (dialog box)
Sorry: an Error occurred in frmMain-usbSave_Click.

1. 00053 - File not found
2. Ok"

I think the above dialog box was thrown when I attempted to Save.

The answer to your first two questions is No, while the answer to the last question is Yes.

I appreciate your willingness to seek the cause of the installation problem, but I don't want you to spend too much time trying to discover the cause.  I suspect the problem may be due to the installation of some other PDF software, since I was trying out several programs.

Perhaps the uninstaller failed to remove an entry in the registry.  The effort required to discover the cause might be similar to finding a needle in a haystack.

P.S.  Storagecraft's ShadowProtect imaging software has saved my bacon numerous times.  I was able to revert to an earlier image and then restore critical financial and other files from backup.  In addition, before I restored the prior image, I took an image of the problem installation, so I can retrieve any personal files that I may need.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. Very glad that you are so organized to have an image recovery tool.

In regards to Error 53: can you check which version of the program you are running? It's posted right above the "Save" button in the program. The latest is v2.5.2, and that version should have addresses this occasional message.

   Cheers!

In fact, I am running v2.5.2.  I'll let you know if Error 53 reappears.

Thanks again,

I had several errors, including this one, when installing into my VMware image running on Vmware Server 2.  I then thought i would just save time and install a generic printer driver and low and behold system said cant do because spooler got a problem.

I had used Ultimate Windows Tweaker to disable the printer spooling as part of many performance tweaks made on my VM. After re-enabling the spooler and rebooting then PDF reDirect installer version 2.5.2 ran perfectly first time.

Hi,

   Thanks for sharing your experience.

Yes, the Windows Print Spooler does more than just spooling the print jobs. It is also the "coordinator" that monitors/allows the installation of printers, ports, and port monitors. Or rather, it seems like the Windows API functions for printers are part of the spooler service.

   Cheers!
