Topic: PDF reDirect is locked up, even after uninstal Posted: 11 Jan 10 at 6:24PM |
First, thank you for PDF reDirect free version!
Is there a way to clear PDF reDirect's memory, so it starts like it is a fresh installation? I ask because it is locked up, apparently irrecoverably. I tried to print a LARGE file, and PDF reDirect locked up. I have tried canceling the print job, restarting PDF reDirect, rebooting the computer, and uninstalling and reinstalling PDF reDirect. Even after the uninstall reinstall just opening PDF reDirect results in the very large file trying to be printed as a pdf, locking up PDF reDirect. Is there a way to do a manual uninstall, that removes all PDF reDirect information from my computer (even locked up print jobs)? FYI, I was printing from Word 2000. The document has images and is about 170 pages long (file size about 25MB). Operating system is Vista. Thanks |

Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problem. For very large files like this, try printing the file in "chunks", for example pages 1-50, then 51 to 100, etc. They will appear in the Merge List in the correct order, and by clicking "Save", they will be merged into a single PDF. To fix the problem you are having, please delete all the files you find in the folder located here (for Vista or Win7): C:\Users\Michel_K17\AppData\Roaming\PDF reDirect\Temp PDF reDirect should work normally afterwards. I hope that helps! |

Similarly, if the batch file printer setting is not found, then Capture.exe tries to treat this is a regular PDF reDirect printer job, and tries to display the normal user interface - which again, will not appear in the user's workspace, and will get stuck in no man's land. Also, you might find that if you are currently within the 90 day evaluation period, it will eventually expire, at which point the program will cease to function (and the reason why will not be obvious as any error messages will not be displayed. If you are still using PDF reDirect Pro, and you plan to use the program to generate PDF files automatically without user interaction, then you should enquire about the Server License which includes a special automated registration process which will allow PDF reDirect Pro to work past the 90 day limit. Best regards, |

Hi Sadie,
Thanks for your posts. You make two excellent points - which are not fully documented. For anyone reading this: the issue described makes reference to running PDF reDirect Pro on a server for automated Batch PDF creation. As some of the conversion may be done in an automated fashion, the print job may be generated unattended, in which case, the code may be running as a system process, and therefore, error messages may not displayed to any user. For a future version, I have added to my todo list a feature to send an e-mail if an error is generated - which will address the issues you have raised. Thanks again. |
