Hi Michel,

I'm using PDF-redirect Pro v2.5.2 and have a problem when I went from Win7 to Win8.0.

In the Preferences|E-mail I set the
Type = Use MAPI (Outlook, Thunderbird etc.)
I checked the Draft E-Mail using Outlook/Express Form

I set the default for Outlook (Desktop) to all available options.

However when I attempt to e-mail a file from within PDF-reDirect I get two error messages:

[Microsoft Office Outlook]
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Outlook and set it as the default mail client.

[PDF reDirect Pro v2]
Sorry: an Error occurred in Send E-mail
1.00423 - Sorry. Couldnot establish a session with a MAPI Complaint e-mail program such as Outlook.
2.OK

In the list of defaults for Outlook
the default for all file extensions are set to Outlook (Desktop)
the default for all protocols is also set to Outlook (Desktop)
Only in the MAPI section is the only default set to something different: The default for the entry Send mail command is set to Microsoft Outlook.

The problem may be with the assignment for MAPI but I can't change the MAPI entry to anything else.

In Win7 it worked like a dream.
Select the file
Click the E-mail button
and up came the e-mail Outlook form with the selected file as attachment

Can you help us out on this one?

Thanks for letting me know. I will do some testing to see if I can duplicate the problem on my Windows 8 test machine.

I have three questions:

#1. Which version of Outlook are you using?
#2. Have you considered running Windows 8.1 instead of 8.0?
#3. Are you running the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows?

Thanks!

Hi,

The testing I did today did not yield any results, because my Win 8.1 test machine (Surface Pro) has both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 installed - which is preventing the PDF reDirect MAPI e-mail feature from working: in fact, I got a Microsoft error message that was very explicit that I needed to remove Outlook 2010 before MAPI would work in Outlook 2013.

I will need to setup a different test machine with Windows 8 to test your situation. Unfortunately, I am currently out of country on a business trip, so I do not have access to all of my equipment right now.

Best regards,

Hi Michel,

My setup uses
Outlook 2013
Windows 8.0 is x64

Yes I have considered running 8.1 and will upgrade in the coming months.

By the way, 'the dream machine' where it worked is a Windows 7 x64 installation with Outlook 2007

So it may be a Windows issue or an Outlook issue.

I did some research and this may explain it, but this is not my field of expertise:

Simple MAPI provides a set of functions that enables you to add a basic level of messaging functionality to Microsoft Windows-based applications.

Important note Important
The Simple MAPI function MAPISendMail is supported by Microsoft Outlook 2013 and Microsoft Outlook 2010. Other Simple MAPI functions have been deprecated in Windows.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for your update. I am using a Microsoft provided set of functions, which they have not declared as not working with Outlook 2013.

I am, however, still troubleshooting. I am making some amount of progress, but nothing definitive though. I'll keep you posted.

Cheers!
