   I have a Word file that contains fields with links to external documents (e.g, an Excel spreadsheet).   This updated field shows information from the Excel spreadsheet.  When I converted it to PDF using PDF reDirect Pro v2, it did not convert this information but instead showed the link/field to the external document, as in:

{ LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:\\Users\\Alan\\Documents\\My Stuff\\Design\\Some Scores.xls" INDscores!R3C9 \a \f 4 \r \* MERGEFORMAT }

Shocked   Confused

    Is there any setting that will make the proper conversion??

                                   Thanks, Alan

Hi Alan,

   I have sent you sample Word files that show how links can be converted to clickable text in PDF reDirect Pro.

   Also, you need to make sure you select that option in PDF reDirect Pro.

   Cheers!

   I am talking about Word "fields" that link to an Excel spreadsheet, not a URL/hyperlink.

    What option do I need to select?            Alan

Hi Alan,

    My bad: I zeroed on the "link".

    No, PDF reDirect Pro does not support the conversion of fields. Basically, MS Word would not print that information to a real (physical) printer, and the same goes for PDF reDirect: that information is simply not sent. This is why I would need to write an MS Word application that would collect that information, and add it to the PDF after it's created.

MS Word most certainly DOES print that information to a real (physical) printer.  That's what fields are for: updating from data in another file.

Oh, OK. Sorry, it's been a long time since I've used that feature in MS Word.

When printing, in the Print Dialog Box, look for the "options..." button. There, you will find a Include with Comments >> Field Codes option. make sure that it is not selected, otherwise, it will print the code instead of the field.

I tested it, and was able to fix the problem that way.

Hopefully that's what you are looking for.
