Topic: Issues with batch file creation Posted: 24 Feb 09 at 11:16AM |
I'm evaluating PDF Redirector and am fairly impressed but... I'm trying to use the batch printer with a Honeywell product for reporting. I have it set to automatically create sequential file names. Testing it from notepad works fine but when my application actually sends print files it never creates the pdf file. If I pause the batch print queue you can see the files being created so my application is feeding it.
Is there any logging that occurs? Any suggestions?

Hi there,
The error logging is turned off by default, but it could be a good way to find out what is wrong. If you open PDF reDirect Pro, and go into the Preferences >> General, and look for the button to turn on the error logging. Finally exit out of the program. Go back, and try to create the PDF files again, and wait until you are sure that it has failed. Then, go back into the preferences, stop the error logging, and take a look at the log file (there is a button for that). If the log is confusing, then post it here, or send it to me via e-mail (exp [at] exp-systems [dot] com), and I will take a look. Do not submit it as a bug report as I look at those reports only occasionally. I hope that will help to find the problem. Cheers! Michel P.S. To be sure: is the program that you are printing from a Windows program? Some companies still try to use old DOS apps, and those do not work. Another way to test: can you print from your App to the "PDF reDirect Pro" printer? |

Just a bit about the application. It is a Honeywell EBI server and I'm trying to set it up to automatically create daily reports in a shared file area for folks to look at. The application is definitely a windows app but the printer setup is sort of odd.
Here's the log.

Something is very, very wrong.
First, please ignore all the errors that say ("AN UNEXPECTED ERROR HAS OCCURED in SaveBatchSettings"). These are actually OK. Here is my log when I print to the Batch printer: 57,92245214,"CA",2,"------------------------------------------------------------" 57,92245216,"CA",3,"START LOGGING: 2/26/2009 10:17:05 PM" 57,92245228,"CA",4,"Windows Version: 2- 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3" 57,92245231,"CA",5,"AppData Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Michel_K17\Application Data\PDF reDirect\" 57,92245233,"CA",6,"Resources Path: C:\Program Files\PDF reDirect\" 57,92245235,"CA",7,"Temp Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Michel_K17\Application Data\PDF reDirect\Temp\" 57,92245238,"CA",8,"Thumbnails Path: C:\Documents and Settings\Michel_K17\Application Data\PDF reDirect\Temp\Thumbnails\" 57,92245240,"CA",9,"Temp Path for Unicode Users: C:\WINDOWS\Temp\PDF reDirect\ 868\" 57,92245244,"CA",10,"Get Command Line Data." 57,92245245,"CA",11,"-> UniqueID is: B092244968" 57,92245247,"CA",12," - Loading the Batch ini data for MyBatchPrinter" 57,92245250,"CA",13,"-> Batch Printer found as: MyBatchPrinter" 57,92245252,"CA",14,"-> Document Name is: EXP Systems Forum: Issues w___" 57,92245254,"CA",15,"-> UserName is: Michel_K17" Yours is more like this: 57,28754.7,"CA",0,"" 57,28754.7,"CA",1,"" 57,28754.7,"CA",2,"------------------------------------------------------------" 57,28754.7,"CA",3,"START LOGGING: 2/26/2009 7:59:14 AM" 57,28754.7,"CA",4,"Return to UI Message = " 57,28754.7,"CA",5,"GENERATE EVENT: ICCN" 57,28757.7,"CA",6,"---------- RECEIVED EVENT -----------" 57,28757.7,"CA",7,"KOKBM" 57,28757.7,"CA",8," - Get User Preferences Data" 57,28757.72,"CA",9,"STOP LOGGING: 2/26/2009 7:59:17 AM" Which does not make sense: it looks like the printer is not sending the data to my program. I'm going to guess that there is something wrong with the printer port monitor where the code all begins. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn on the log for this part of the code. instead, I will need to send you a special file with the logging turned on ahead of time. I will send you an e-mail directly with the specific instructions. This is definitely more complicated than I had hoped. Since you can print to Notepad, it could have to do then with your Honeywell app. What is it which is odd about the printer setup in that program you are using? Thank you for your patience with this problem. |

From within the Honeywell app named Station there is another called Quick Builder. Within Quick Builder you must add the printer with the exact spelling and case as the actual printer queue name. Once it is added there you download the info back to the Station app. Within Station you go to configure system hardware, printers and the printer you just added will be in a list but a check box must be selected to activate it. Lots of hoops to jump through.

After ignoring this project for several months I'm back. It still is doing much the same thing. With the printer paused it shows a 96.3 kb file of four pages owned by mngr and named "Crystal Reports - alarm.cr". When the printer is un-paused (if that is a word) it processes but never outputs a pdf file. I'm not sure if you sent the piece for the additional logging but here is the latest log from where I just restarted it.

Hi Kerry,
Yes, you definitely need the Port Monitor Logging code. I will pull your e-mail address from your forum account, and will send you an e-mail with the instructions to follow. Cheers! |
